I edited ‘OSEA’ (2022), a short art/dance film about how women support one another. I worked closely with Cordelia Grierson, Artistic Director of CASA Festival, to bring her narrative ideas to life using semi-choreographed dance sequences. Something I really loved about this project was the creative challenge and freedom involved in building a story without a pre-determined structure, and using exclusively visual sequences – a fun shift from my frequent focus on speech and dialogue.
OSEA features dancers Melisa Herrada and Jesica Elizondo. The film was beautifully shot by Fernando Frias, the magical sound design was by CIL, and the colourist was Serena Mirambeau Bray. The British Council funded the project.
CASA is a festival of Latinx art and cultural organisation based in London which aims to strengthen relationships between British and Latin American artists. ‘OSEA’ screened at their CASALab event in October 2022, and at Festival 4×4 in Mexico.
In 2023, I worked with Cordelia on a second, equally visually-arresting film, ‘LOVEBOMB’, which tells a story of toxic love, also through the medium of dance. Private links to both films are available on request.
